~~~~~~~``THE ART OF TAPPING''~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IN the Art Of Tapping I will discuss basics discovered by Van Halen ,
my own interpretation to this amazing technique, Joe Satriani's works
and more interesting ideas used by the masters.Tapping is a fairly easy
style of playing but can take awhile to get used to.
When tapping use the tip of your index, middle, or ring finger of
your picking hand to tap the note that needs to be tapped. Tapping is
a technique that works best with lots of sustain and distortion,
using an electric guitar.
The great one Edward Van Halen invented the two handed tapping technique in
Easy aint it? One of the important things before you of and start master
tapping is first u have to master hammer ons and pull offs. This would
come under legato, it gives the music a smooth sound. Make sure none of
the other strings ring out when tapping. To prevent this just mute the
strings that you are not playing with your left palm.
When tapping its most likely that you will be tapping pentatonic,
these are commonly used.
Now for some hammer ons
Tap Sliding
Two handed tapping....ya start on fret 15 and tap using your index
finger then pull, pull, slide...repeat. When you get down to the 5th fret,
switch to the G string by tapping with your middle finger,
Then tap your way back up while pulling with your left.
Start slow and then speed it up, be honest with yourself!
4 Finger Tapping
Four finger (and eight finger) tapping is kinda hard. You’ve got all
this knowledge of where the notes are supposed to go but
When you try to play a piece, your right hand fingers won’t co-operate.
Like anything it’s gonna require hours and hours of
practice until you get to the point where it comes to you straight
away.
Tap with your right hand first finger on the 17th fret, then tap with
your right hand pinky on the 21st. Use your right pinky to pull back off
to the 17th then pull, pull, hammer and repeat. Then drop down to the
B string and do the same thing. Move down a couple of frets and repeat
it..
yourself
Tapping Tricks
Tap the 8th Fret with your index finger and pull off to the 5th fret.
Then hammer on the 8th fret with your pinky on the left hand, this lick
makes you sound like you playing at the speed of light if you pull it off
really fast and continuous.
